Quarterly Meetings Between The Worcester County Conservation District and Ag Commissions
In January 2009, the Worcester County Conservation District (WCCD) contacted all Agricultural Commissions (AgComms) within the county to initiate a partnership for the two groups and establish goals and priorities related to local agriculture and conservation. An AgComm represents the farming community within their own town. They are the voice to promote agriculture, along with preserving, sustaining and revitalizing business and farm land. Together WCCD and AgComms will increase agricultural awareness throughout Worcester County.
There is great interest in establishing more AgComms, FFA Chapters, obtaining active enrollment by teachers for “Agriculture in the Classroom”, and working more closely with the Resource Conservation and Development Service (RC&D) in Worcester County.
On October 14th six towns where represented by their AgComms at a meeting and continue this newly formed partnership. Scott Soares, Chairman, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, presented the group with an update that is available by emailing HYPERLINK "mailto:Lisa.trotto@ma.usda.gov" Lisa.trotto@ma.usda.gov or calling 508-829-0168, ext. 193.
